KIWIS HELPING KIWIS

 Registered Charity CC63003

The Charity ADCR was created in a time of need after cyclone Gabrielle.

After the cyclone it was identified that many people wanted to send items and donate money to help those immediately affected. We took time to identify the needs of the affected and then went to companies and back to the community for help to provide those needs. In the aftermath with lots of families losing dignity and the basic necessities of life that people take for granted; food, water, hygiene and warmth amongst other things.

 80 year old couples living in their wet garage's with no heating, insulation and drinking water 2 months after the cyclone into and through winter.

 ADCR's main function is to be a focal point to collect and bulk store items.

Many of our food items come from KiwiHarvest who redistributes food that would otherwise be going to waste. Bulk storing items lessens the need for timely donation drives and allows us to move quickly when a crisis occurs.

ADCR remains on standby, with surplus, to send help in an emergency whilst people wait for government and insurance companies to process paperwork to provide disaster relief.

In an emergency community groups can come to us as their first point of contact for items required;
This includes materials and items needed to make homes safe and livable

 This may also include securing a building close to the area of concern as a hub for distribution and volunteers.

In times when there is no emergency crisis, items are rotated through community groups and schools to help fill the gaps for those needing a hand up.

This is alongside rotating the resources we have through-out the community where it will add significant value. This also helps to gain connections and awareness for ADCR within communities and community groups, which in turn helps with how quickly we can contact and assist people in need when disaster strikes and also build community resilience to disasters.

As a long-term goal, we want to be able to provide immediate relief to people affected by disasters nationwide and help set up a support framework to organize and efficiently procure items/services and deliver them where it is most needed, covering all people until the effects of the disaster are minimized to the point where it is possible for the community to regrow independently without long-lasting effect.

It's important to recognize that disasters can have long-lasting effects on communities despite the media attention fading.

Recovery efforts may need to continue for months or even years.

As such, we will work to establish long-term relationships with the affected communities and develop strategies for ongoing support to transition back to pre-event life.

If you can help or need it,
